Named to honor the memory of farmer and educator Marjorie Leonard and Jerry Stephen Mobley, a Department of Agriculture livestock specialist, former president of the Durham Farmer’s Market Board of Directors, and proprietor of Meadow Lane Farm, the fund was recently established as a granting agency to support the development and long-term sustainability of small farms in North Carolina.
Chefs from across the state, including Pup’s Steakhouse executive chef and American Culinary Federation NC president Peter Spear plus members Geoff Blount and Keith Gardner, Luke Maguire of Amos Mosquito’s Restaurant in Atlantic Beach, Carrie Schleiffer of G2B Gastropub in Durham, Aaron Zarcynski and Charlie Deal of Jujube in Chapel Hill, and Toby Boutilier of StarLight Cafe in Greenville, will prepare a meal using organic vegetables and meat from Meadow Lane’s pasture-raised livestock. Farmstead cheeses from Celebrity Dairy in Pittsboro and the Cultured Cow in Durham plus bread from Loaf in Durham will round out the meal. Benjamin Vineyards in Graham and White Street Brewery in Wake Forest will supply refreshment.
